Tennessee Government
Tennessee is governed by a strong government that works hard to ensure the safety and security of its citizens. The state is led by a governor who is elected every four years and serves as the head of state. There are also two houses in the Tennessee Legislature—the Senate and the House of Representatives. These bodies pass laws, set taxes, and develop public policy. In addition, local governments play an important role in providing services to Tennesseans on a day-to-day basis. From ensuring roads stay safe to keep the water supply clean, these officials work together to make sure people have what they need for their daily lives.
